Located by the Jinbao River in the Moon Hill scenic area in Gaotian Township, Yangshuo County, the big banyan tree measures 17 metres high, 7.05 metres in diameter. Its round crown covers more than 100 square metres. With twisted roots and gnarled branches, the tree boasts a history of 1400 years. The surrounding countryside along the Jinbao River also offers a spectacular view. The Big Banyan had become famous after a scene of the movie Liu Sanjie was shot there. During the scene folk song singe] Liu Sanjie expresses affection to her lover by throwing an embroidered ball to him.

How to get there
Eight kilometres to the south of Yungshuo Town, the Big Banyan is conveniently located by the Guilin-Lipu Road. Take a Gaotian-bound or" Lipu-bound bus and get off" at the Big Banyan, otherwise bike or drive to the park.

Photography Tips
The ideal seasons for photographing the Big Banyan are spring and summer, when the water level of the Jinbao River is at high flow. The dam nearby is a good vantage point to capture the tree and its reflection on the water. To enter the Big Banyan Park, you'll need an admission ticket. The price is 18 yuan.
