The Two Rivers and Four Lakes scenery area points the two rivers -- Li River (part of downtown area), Taohua River (Peach-blossom River) link with together the four lakes -- Guihu Lake, Ronghu Lake, Shanhu Lake, and Mulong Lake to form a round-the-city waterway attraction. At present, it is divided into three main theme scenery area, including:  Mulong ancient water channel scenery area--Taking the Mulong Ancient Ferry, Old City-wall as main spots, the Baoji Hill and Diecai Hill as background to show the city's culture.

Guihu Lake scenery area--Taking the natural and wild interests as special characteristics. Ronghu Lake-Shanhu Lake scenery area--To show the artistic Conception of “the city is in scenery while the scenery is in city”, taking the city's space between hills and rivers as characteristics.

Located in the center of Guilin city, northward near to the Center Square, and southward looking at each other with Lijiang Road over a road. The prosperous Zhongshan Road goes through this area. It is an open type walking park. The main scenic spots in this area are the following (from Shanhu Lake to Ronghu Lake in order): 

 

Bosom Friend Platform

On the east of Shanhu lake, it comprises of Lute Desk, little bridge, small island and stream, taking the Chinese ancient musical instrument -- lute shape as main frame, and the path, spring, stream and old and famous trees as assistant spots.

 

To Towers of Shanhu Lake

Situated in the southeast of Shanhu lake, two towers are nine-floor copper tower and seven-floor coloured glaze tower separately, adopting the Chinese' traditional decorating manner. Two towers are connected each other by an aquarium under the water. All components of the copper tower are came and forged with copper materials. This cooper tower create three world recorders-the highest copper tower the highest copper building and the highest tower in water.  

Yangqiao Bridge  

Located in the Zhongshan Middle-Road, over Ronghu Lake and Shanhu Lake, it is designed referring to the Vietemar Bridge of the Cathedral in Vatican which style is generous and simple. Two bridge openings on the south and north of Yangqiao Bridge are dry which used for people walking as subway. There are many embossments showing Guilin's history and culture on the wall of these two openings. 

 

Glass

On the west of Yangqiao Bridge, it is the first applicative bridge made of special crystal glass for sightseeing. The whole bridge adopts crystal glass products as components. It has five spans, only for viewing, not through for boat. The bridge gallery is European style.

Big Dipper Bridge

Located in the East Ronghu Lake, this bridge's shape is designed according to the arrangement of the Big Dipper. Look at from the above; it looks like the Big Dipper dropping in the water, so its name is Big Dipper Bridge. All railings of the bridge are made of high quality white marble. This bridge is one of the most important viewing bridges. There are many auspicious figures full of folks customs on the railings, such as Longevity Crane, Birds Singing and Flower Fragrance which are carved with white marble.

Poem Inscriptions on Guilin Landscape 

From the Northern and Southern Dynasties to today, many scholars and poets came to Guilin due to some reasons, who wrote a great number of poems and proses praising the beautiful landscapes of Guilin. Among them, some people carved their poems on the rocks to form the Guilin's rock carvings culture. Around Ronghu Lake and Shanhu Lake, there are 37 rock carvings total.

The contents of these carving are: 

One is the poems praising the landscapes of Ronghu Lake and Shanhu Lake and around scenic spots; the other is the proses magnifying the Guilin.

Located in the middle section of Rongyin bank of Ronghu Lake, this bridge is designed referring to the Tianbaowu Bridge in Winter Palace. It is a white marble bridge with three arches, bright and quiet and elegant to show the artistic conception of “A bright moon is embraced by two rivers, and a colorful rainbow is formed between twin-bridge” wrote by Li Bai, a famous poet of Tang Dynasty.

Twin-Bridge of Aged Banyan

It is the soul of Ronghu Lake and Shanhu Lake scenery area, planted in Song Dynasty over 800 years ago. The Ancient South Gate is nearby, built in Song Dynasty, and also named Wei De Gate. The aged trees reaching the sky around make you feel in the city's forest. Tying Boat Place of Huang Tingjian: A scenic spot with historical culture, jointed with Aged Banyan, it is built for memorizing Huang Tingjian, a famous litterateur of Northern Song Dynasty, comprising of Tying Boat Pavilion, Stone Boat, Poem Inscription and Handwriting Gallery.

Rong Stream Bridge 

On the east of Ronghu Hotel, it is designed based on the Chinese famous bridge--Zhaozhou Bridge, simple and stable. The railing boards and arches are made of white marble. The unique design reflects Chinese traditional stone inscription art. Guihu Lake scenery area Guihu Lake is the general designation of Xi Qing Lake, Baoxian Lake and Lize Lake. Today, this scenery area has become the exposition garden filled with the famous flowers and trees, the well-known pavilions and bridges.

 

Yingbin Bridge

It a special bridge to Ronghu Hotel for receiving guests, made of white marble and steel cables frame. It is affected by Lock Bridge of Buda- pest in design to break out the traditional balanceable and stiff model and show ancient hanging bridge's style in shape which make people think of the history of castle under rich classical conception.

 

Lijun Bridge

It is the first self-anchored suspension cable bridge in China. Its charming is outstanding in night viewing: under the warm light, the red steel pillars stand erect on the clear water showing more grand, self-confident and dignified. The design concept of this bridge derived from the Gold Door Bridge, a famous bridge of America.

 

Guanyi Bridge  

Located in the joint of Baoxian Lake and Lize Lake, its design ideal came from the St. Tenile Tower Bridge of Florence in Italy in Revival of Learning. The rich and fine sculptures and four pillars on the each end of bridge present for Shanhu Lake, Ronghu Lake, Guihu Lake and Mulonghu Lake separately. On them carved the histories and legends about these four lakes.

 

Baoxian Bridge  

Back on the Old Man Hill and over Guihu Lake, referring to the Alexander Bridge in France, the exquisite stone carvings are found on the bridge. The perfect combination between modern techniques and classicism is realized in design and construction on this bridge.

 

Xiqing Bridge

Imitated by the Digit Bridge of Cam Bridge University, the railings are patched up, which shows not only the random of ancient bridge but also the preciseness of the geometry. This bridge is constructed and decorated with rare red Wood from Northeast China with double arcs shape and warm color, and the configuration of railings shows a kind of rural style.

 

Baoji Bridge

Over the Xiqing Lake and Iron Buddha Pond, a part of ancient city wall on lakeside seems to tell people the war-years stories without voice. The surface of the bridge is decorated with natural stones, which colors are simple and unsophisticated. In design, it adopts the manner of ancient city wall's design. The city gate, pylon and moat are the deduction of beacon and clarino, which makes you think of the old history of the city.

 

Zhongshan North Road Bridge

Located in the Zhongshan North Road, a new bridge of the “Two rivers and four lakes” project, its underground water system is jointing both Iron Buddha Tower and Mulong Lake. Look at the east; you can see the whole panorama of Song City. Two viewing stages are designed on both sides of bridge. This bridge's design conception derives from Nave Bridge- a famous bridge over Seine in France.

 

Mulong Lake scenery area   

A Mulong Tower was built in the Mulong Lake, at its northern bank built Song Street which responses to the ancient Dongzhen Gate of Song Dynasty, at its southern bank is Diecai Hill--another famous attraction in Guilin.

 

Mulong Bridge:   

It is a new bridge built over Mulong Lake in Song City Park, which imitated the Wood Bridge painted in “the Picture of Prosperity in Tomb- sweeping Day” painted by Zhang Zeduan in Northern Song Dynasty. This bridge is made of wood, both ends joint with the Street Outlook&Wine Plant in Main Park of Song City and Mulong Tower separately to show the prosperous scenes of Guilin in Northern Song Dynasty. Because the water levels of inner lakes and Li River are different, it is higher in inner lakes while it is lower in Li River; the Mulong Lock was built between Li River and Mulong Lake for the boat passing.
